Common issues and solutions.

Image Issues

Image Won't Load

Symptoms: Red error message in Output Window

Solutions:

  • Check file format (PNG, JPG supported)
  • Try smaller file size (under 5MB)
  • Re-import the image
  • Clear browser cache

Images Appear Pixelated

Solutions:

  • Use higher resolution source (1920×1080 recommended)
  • Reset zoom in Output Window
  • Export at higher quality from source app

Storage Issues

Auto-Save Failed

Error: "Storage quota exceeded"

Solutions:

  1. Reduce image sizes (resize before importing)
  2. Remove unused beats from shelf
  3. Save project file manually
  4. Clear browser storage (Settings → Clear site data)
  5. Use smaller image formats (WebP or JPEG)

Project Won't Load

Solutions:

  • Check file isn't corrupted (should be valid .emberboard file)
  • Try opening in different browser
  • Check file size is >1KB
  • Ensure file extension is .emberboard

Performance Issues

Slow Playback

Solutions:

  • Reduce image sizes
  • Close other browser tabs
  • Reduce number of beats in timeline
  • Move unused beats to shelf

Laggy Interface

Solutions:

  • Restart browser
  • Clear browser cache
  • Check RAM usage (close other apps)
  • Use Chrome or Firefox for best performance

Browser Compatibility

  • Chrome/Edge - Full support
  • Firefox - Full support
  • ⚠️ Safari - Limited storage
  • IE - Not supported

Private/Incognito Mode

Auto-save doesn't work in private browsing:

  • Use manual save instead
  • Save project file before closing

Common Questions

Can't Find Feature

Check these places:

  • File menu - Save, Open, Export
  • Edit menu - Undo, Redo
  • View menu - Themes
  • Settings menu - FPS, Aspect Ratio
  • Properties Panel - Beat-specific settings

Keyboard Shortcuts Don't Work

Browser shortcuts (Ctrl+S, Ctrl+O) trigger browser defaults.

Lost My Project

Auto-save only works:

  • On same browser and device
  • If browser storage wasn't cleared
  • Not in private/incognito mode

Prevention:

  • Save project files regularly
  • Keep backups in cloud storage

Known Limitations (Alpha)

Current Version

  • Web-only - Desktop app not yet available
  • Browser storage limits - ~50-100MB typically
  • No video export - Coming in future release
  • Single user - No collaboration features yet
  • No real-time sync - Between devices

Safari Specific

  • Stricter storage limits (~1GB)
  • May clear storage more aggressively
  • Use Chrome/Firefox for best experience

  1. Check documentation - Most answers are here
  2. Restart browser - Fixes many issues
  3. Try different browser - Rule out browser-specific bugs
  4. Save and reload - Fresh start often helps

Technical Details

Browser Storage

EmberBoard uses IndexedDB for auto-save:

  • Chrome/Edge: ~60% of available disk
  • Firefox: ~50% of free disk
  • Safari: ~1GB hard limit

Clearing Storage

To free up space:

  1. Save project file first
  2. Browser DevTools (F12)
  3. Application → Storage → Clear site data
